Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is present in 1 out of every 44 children in the U.S. The neurodevelopmental disorder is characterized by difficulties in social communication and interaction accompanied by restrictive interests and repetitive behaviors.
Autistic individuals may struggle with back-and-forth conversations, nonverbal communication, developing and maintaining relationships, and engaging in social interactions. They may also exhibit a strong preference for restricted interests and exhibit repetitive behaviors such as hand-flapping or twirling.
How We Can Help
ASD is a complex disorder that can manifest in a variety of ways depending on the individual. Our team is trained to use the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2), the gold standard assessment in diagnosing ASD, and can also evaluate for common co-occurring conditions. We evaluate children as young as one year old through adulthood.
We also offer cognitive behavioral therapy treatment services for individuals with high-verbal abilities and strive to provide a sensory-friendly environment as well as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for young children to help build social skills as well as manage repetitive and avoidance behaviors.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
The two main diagnostic criteria for ASD are “persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts” and “restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities.” These symptoms will manifest in the early developmental period, but they may not be noticeable until social demands increase, such as the start of schooling. These symptoms may have been present previously but are masked by strategies learned throughout the lifetime.
