Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a goal-oriented form of psychotherapy that focuses on thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs and how they affect your state of mind and mental health. CBT works to restructure thoughts, behaviors and beliefs that are understood to lead to negative emotions such as anxiety. CBT can be an effective tool for those dealing with anxiety, phobias, OCD, depression, and many other mental health concerns. CBT can also be useful for those without mental health concerns to better address stressful situations and environments.
Habit Reversal Training (HRT)
Habit Reversal Training (HRT) is a highly effective therapy. It’s one of the most studied behavioral interventions for people with tics and a main component of Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT). HRT can lead to an improvement in tic behaviors in just a few sessions. This therapy focuses on behavior awareness and replacement behaviors and can be effective for those with Tics/Tourette Syndrome, Hair-Pulling Disorder and Skin-Picking Disorder.
Exposure Therapy
Exposure therapy involves developing a hierarchy of distressing situations and gradually confronting these stress-inducing scenarios with the help and support of a mental health professional. Over time the individuals learn how to manage the stress and anxiety associated with these scenarios. Exposure therapy can be effective for individuals with OCD, anxiety, and specific phobias.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Mindfulness-based approaches focus on being present in the moment and observing situations, emotions, thoughts and feelings from a non-judgmental and self-compassionate perspective. Mindfulness approaches have been found to help alleviate anxiety, depression and stress by teaching ways to manage unwanted thoughts and feelings.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Parent Child Interaction Therapy is one of the best evidence based treatments for children between the ages of 2 and 6. These sessions teach parents/caregivers play therapy skills as well as methods to manage unexpected behaviors using procedures that are systematic and developmentally sensitive. Sessions are structured to coach parents/caregivers in using high quality play using data to guide and inform treatment.
